Something to say

My problem with a lot of photography is that it has nothing to say.
It might be a pretty picture - but if it doesn't really get across any idea or emotion, a lot of the time it really is just another pretty picture.

In an attempt to make a photograph that says something about something, I made the following image.

I think the image is fairly self-explanatory. It would work a bit better if I had a dark-skinned model, but I worked with what I had on hand. For the record, the model has no intention of killing America or American citizens. He's just a model crazy enough to go along with my crazy ideas.

Of course, I could put any flag I want in the sights. I probably will in the future, with a different setup and with a different gun. Of course, I have the same image in color. I like it just as much in color as in black and white.

Anyone else have an opinion? Color vs black and white?

I think the highlights are blown out (or easier to notice) in the color image. I agree with the use of a darker skinned model. I think if you are trying to say something, I am not sure what you are saying. I would have liked to have a military personnel model. This guy looks like a hunter, but I have no idea why there is an American flag in his optics. I do like the lighting and I love being able to see the subject's eye; very important.

This is why I love comments. I think I'm getting the idea across really well, and the viewer can't figure out what the hell I'm trying to say.

I guess I was going for a terrorist sniper sort of deal - someone who's out to kill America. Down with the infidels and all that. Thus the flag in the optics and the head covering. Clearly I failed with this particular image - any ideas on how to make it work?

If this is a sniper, he needs to look like one. Add some foliage surrounding the subject, on the subject, and also on the rifle. If you want it to be real, make it look real. His face is too clean and, once again, he's too white. Ha.

I concur with Kinkade. I mean, you obviously don't have access to a terrorist... but I think for photos like these, maybe to avoid controversy, you might want to put up pictures of for reals terrorists instead of trying to show a stereotypical image of one that isn't even accurate.
