This weekend we took the FJ out to the Edge of the World (overlooking Sedona) and Havasupai Point (overlooking the Grand Canyon). Accompanied by my buddy Case and his Tundra, we got in over 100 miles of off-road travel in two days of cliffside camping. We saw the grand canyon from one of the least-visited overlooks on the south rim, hiked down into the canyon, drank lots of coffee, and generally had a beautiful mini-vacation, for less than the cost of one hotel room for one night.

From Flagstaff, we trucked up to Havasupai Point. A little-known overlook on the Havasupai reservation. The entrance is about half a mile south of the park entrance, near Tusayan. About 40 miles of off-road to the campsite, including a stop to pay the Havasupai tribe to enter their land ($25 per car, per entrance). Beautiful driving, and highly recommended. High clearance vehicles only. Both the FJ and the Tundra handled admirably.

Havasupai Point was easily the most tranquil, beautiful campsite I have ever been to. No wind, no other campers, not even much other traffic on the roads out there. We had the entire place to ourselves. In fact, the ranger said we were the only group to enter the entire weekend. It really doesn't get any better than that.
